UTHealth Houston is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, the largest medical complex in the world, with 54 member institutions that include 21 hospitals, three medical schools, six nursing programs, two pharmacy schools, a dental school, three public health organizations, eight academic and research institutions, and 13 support organizations. Among them is the UT MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), operated jointly by UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson.

Beyond the science, Houston is a great place to live. It's one of the most diverse cities in the country, and that shows up on the plate, with more than 10,000 restaurants spanning from East Asia to West Africa to the Gulf Coast, plus serious Texas barbecue. The Texas Medical Center sits at the edge of Hermann Park, with the Museum District and the Houston Zoo just beyond and the Menil a few minutes away in Montrose. Downtown is home to resident ballet, opera, symphony, and theater companies, a distinction few US cities can claim. For sports fans, the Astros, Rockets, Texans, and Dynamo all play here. Weekends fill easily with the Buffalo Bayou trails, Galveston's beaches an hour south, or festivals in Montrose and the Heights. Housing is affordable by big-city standards, and mild winters keep the outdoor season running from late October through May.
